Safely performs journeyperson level tasks in the fabrication,
construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of fixtures,
equipment, structures, buildings, and built-in components for Texas
Tech facilities. Works under general supervision with moderate
latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

- Monitors and/or supervises preventive maintenance on electrical
equipment assigned to him/her.
- Advises shop Foreperson or Tradesperson Leader on job or
project status and operational problems.
- Provides after hour overtime work as required; handles all
emergency generator callbacks as first call.
- Conduct automatic and manual transfer tests of simulated power
outages to ensure generators are functioning properly. Test
batteries, fuel, coolant and oil.
- Perform load testing on units to identify possible problems and
prevent wet stacking. Make electrical and mechanical wiring
modifications to diesel control circuits.
- Assist and participate in routine inspections and make
modifications to IC engines, diesel generators, and associated
equipment. Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on
Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) and annunciator panels.
- Secures vehicle, equipment and areas of operations. Operates
vehicles including pickups, trucks, vans, forklifts, trailers,
lifts and tanks.
- Identify, check and replace all filters on all assigned

- Work with outside vendors for calibration, proprietary parts
and computer system adjustments.
Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may be reflected
in the completion of high school or equivalent. Must have a valid
driver's license and must be insurable to operate TTU vehicles.
Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC), Arc Flash protection
and proper use of PPE.

Minimum Hire Rate
Compensation will be based on the knowledge, skills, abilities, and
defined years of experience to align with the appropriate career
levels for the Tradesperson specialty in the Operations Division
Facilities Maintenance Career Plan.
Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the
individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring
department, as well as the institutional pay plan. For additional
