Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at UMC Children's Hospital is a 16
bed unit, serving patient's ages 0-18 suffering life threatening
illnesses or injuries as part of a comprehensive Level I trauma
center. An RN in our PICU will learn and gain experience in a
family centered atmosphere where medical and surgical care is
provided using a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach.
Combining the talents of more than 30 specialists and
subspecialists, children at UMC are treated for a wide range of
needs that can include trauma, general surgery, cardiology,
neurology and neurological surgery, oncology/hematology,
endocrinology, and burn care. Providing safe, quality care to our
most vulnerable patients is our priority. ORIENTATION-- UMC
Hospital Orientation-- UMC Nursing Orientation-- Electronic
Documentation trainingIndividualized Unit Specific Orientation--
Unit specific orientation is provided in addition to UMC's Hospital
and Nursing Orientation.Qualifications-- Graduation from an
accredited School of Nursing.-- Valid Texas Nursing License or
Compact Licensure / Graduate Nurse Permit Required.-- Knows
clinical and nursing standards and practices in according with the
nursing scope and standards of practice as set forth by the
American Nurses Association.-- Provides professional nursing care
to patients and provides supervision and guidance to the members of
the nursing staff.-- Age specific knowledge is required when needed
for appropriate patient care.-- Has working knowledge of
organizational and nursing policies.-- Requires adequate hand/eye
coordination and fine motor skills.-- Talking and hearing is
essential for communication.-- Visual acuity is required to work
with patients for observation, assessment, and electronic
charting.-- Current CPR certification from American Heart
Association.-- ACLS &/or PALS may be required based upon area
of practice.-- Customer service abilities including effective
listening skills.-- Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and
the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.-- Ability to
perform work that requires walking, sitting and standing most of
the time while on duty. Occasional lifting or patients with
assistance is required.-- All employees must review, sign and
utilize UMC's Standards of Excellence.
