    for adult and geriatric patients. The goal of this unit is to provide high
    quality care to patients no longer requiring critical care but requiring a
    higher level of care than can be provided on the medical floors. Serving as an
    ICU step-down unit allows CICCU
    staff members to care for cardiac
    patients and patients from all other
    specialties and areas. Caring for high acuity patients requires that teamwork
    be utilized every day in this fast-paced, high-energy unit.--Nurses serving in this unit can precipitate caring for patients with these conditions but certainly not limited to the following: patients requiring CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow oxygen, or mechanical ventilation whom are medically stable, continuous intermediate cardiac and hemodynamic monitoring, and patients requiring nursing interventions every 2 hours for --A multi-disciplinary approach to nursing care is utilized on the CICCU. Patient care providers will include Registered Nurses, Licensed Vocational Nurses, Nurse Assistants/Patient Care Assistants, Respiratory Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Pharmacists, Social Services, Case Managers, and Nursing Support Services. --ORIENTATION------------------UMC Hospital Orientation------------------UMC Nursing Orientation ------------------Electronic Documentation trainingIndividualized Unit Specific Orientation------------------Unit specific orientation is provided in addition to UMC's Hospital and Nursing Orientation. Qualifications------------------Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing ------------------Valid Texas Nursing License or Compact Licensure------------------Knows clinical and nursing standards and practices in according with the nursing scope and standards of practice as set forth by the American Nurses Association. ------------------Provides professional nursing care to patients and provides supervision and guidance to the members of the nursing staff.------------------Age specific knowledge is required when needed for appropriate patient care. ------------------Has working knowledge of organizational and nursing policies. ------------------Requires adequate hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills.------------------Talking and hearing is essential for communication.------------------Visual acuity is required to work with patients for observation, assessment, and electronic charting. ------------------Current CPR certification from American Heart Association ------------------Current ACLS certification from American Heart Association ------------------Customer service abilities including effective listening skills ------------------Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment ------------------Ability to perform work that requires walking, sitting and standing most of the time while on duty.
