Position DescriptionAssisting in developing plans to test the central hypothesis that combining vitamin A supplementation and HDAC inhibition (HDACI) maintains hippocampal-dependent learning and RAR-sensitive gene transcription in DG more effectively than HDACi alone (NIH R01 AG073826-01A1).Coordinating and spearheading the development of analysis tools that in a way that dovetail with future imaging, electrophysiological, and computational experimentsKeeping yourself and the PI intellectually engaged on new developments, resources, and potential collaborations.Laboratory administration (lab safety, protocol creation/maintenance, orderliness and reporting); provide logistical support for undergraduate student scientists.Presentations and at laboratory meetings, local group research meetings, and off-campus professional meetings.Processing, organizing and visualizing data from and relevant to the Lawrence Lab.Major/Essential FunctionsEmployees in this classification provide support in an assigned research laboratory conducting specified phases of research projects. Performs work independently and is responsible for developing new procedures and techniques to be utilized in the laboratory and in experiments, and new applications for standard procedures and techniques. Work is performed under usual laboratory conditions. Some hazards may be present due to use of radioactive, carcinogenic or other potientially harmful substances. Responsibilities also include ensuring overall cleanliness of the laboratory and laboratory equipment, and ordering and maintaining an adequate stock of necessary supplies. May instruct or direct work of subordinate laboratory personnel.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in one of the sciences, or equivalent combination (4 years) of job-related experience and college education. Experience may be substituted for college education on a year for year basis.Preferred QualificationsSome background in basic principles in computer science and biology attained through undergraduate research and/or coursework. Self-motivation, leadership skills, and intellectual engagement required to spearhead the planning, coordination, and execution of research aims and experiments. Some familiarity with biological techniques and a genuine interest in learning new techniques. Programming and analytical analysis experience preferred. Technician will perform cryostat sectioning of frozen and fixed tissue, mouse colony maintenance, genotyping, and analysis.Occasional DutiesTechnician will assist with completion of histology/transcriptomics workflow
