Covenant Health is seeking a Full Time, Day Shift Licensed Vocational Nurse with the MS Gen Med Department at Covenant Levelland.Apply Today! Supervises non-licensed nursing personnel. Under the direct supervision of a registered nurse.Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrates the ability to transfer scientific knowledge from social, biological, and physical sciences in applying the nursing process.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and competency in performing baseline nursing skills. Maintains clinical competencies according to departmental standards.
  • Under supervision of the RN, identifies information necessary to plan and administer care.
  • Identifies and determines priority of the patients needs/problems, anticipates emergencies, complications of pathology, and assists others in implementing complex care.
  • Administers all medications and treatments according to hospital policy and procedure, accepted standards of care, and unit guidelines.
  • Communicates effectively with the RN, patients, families, and physicians. Documenting patient status, patient needs/problems, nursing intervention/patient response, safety interventions, and education/teaching.
  • Assists the RN in the development of a plan of care that includes discharge planning, realistic and measurable goals, and appropriate nursing interventions to produce desired outcomes with the patients.
  • Maintains a safe work environment by adhering to JCAHO and other regulatory requirements. Reports untoward incidents per hospital policy.
  • Maintains a committed and cooperative attitude with staffing, promoting teamwork and harmony by readily assisting other staff and patients without being asked to do so.
  • Cardiac Cath Lab Holding Area:
  • Under the supervision of the RN, receives patients into Holding Area and assesses readiness by reviewing the medical record and patient identification. Assures proper IV access.
  • Supervises the Cath Lab Assistants.
  • Recovers patients from Cath Lab procedures and conscious sedation. Gives report to receiving nurse on the floor.
  • Manages sheath removal and establishment of hemostasis.
  • Performs selected non-invasive procedures such as Tilt Table Tests and Cardioversions.
  • Assists with safe and monitored patient transporting back to critical care area.
  • Short Stay Heart Center (SSHC):
  • Performs phlebotomy procedures according to laboratory protocol.
  • Manages bedside and central station cardiac monitoring, correctly interprets patient's heart rhythm and intervenes appropriately.
  • Obtains clear, diagnostic 12 Lead EKG.
  • Manages arterial and venous sheaths appropriately, establishing homeostasis effectively using digital pressure and homeostasis devices.
  • Manages permanent IV catheter care appropriately.
  • Follows up with patient's progress by telephone within 24-72 hours after discharge.
  • Heart Failure Clinic (HC6):
  • Under the direction of a registered nurse:
  • Performs phlebotomy procedures according to laboratory protocol, and enhances patient management through proficient use of point-of-care testing.
  • Manages bedside and central station cardiac monitoring, correctly interprets patient's heart rhythm and intervenes appropriately, and obtains clear, diagnostic 12 lead EKG's and Thoracic BioImpedance readings.
  • Enrolls patients in Heart Failure Clinic, and enters patient demographics and clinical data into the database, and promotes patient/family compliance through weekly contact by clinic visit or telephone assessment.Minimum Position Qualifications:Education:
    • Graduate of an accredited licensed vocational school of nursing.
    • Heart Failure Clinic (HC6):Experience: 1 year Cardiac Cath Lab Holding Area:
      • Experience as an LVN in a Critical Care area.Licenses and Certifications:
        • Current Texas L.V.N. license required or a new graduate that meets the criteria to sit for the NCLEX examination and become licensed in the state of Texas or approved compact State for LVN.
        • BLS (AHA) certification within 30 days of employment.
