Recruitment or Relocation incentives may be authorized for highly qualified candidate.The Supervisory Psychiatrist has broad management responsibilities which include operation and management of key clinical, training, and administrative programs.This position has been approved for the Education Debt Reduction Program. Please refer to "Duties Section below" for more information.Additional duties include, but are not limited to:Responsible for the development and implementation of programs, policies and procedures.Oversight of administrative and programmatic resourceMonitoring outcomes using data-driven quality assurance process.Supervisory responsibility for subordinates, as well as line and staff authority for resource allocations within the area of responsibility and ensures the efficient operation of the organizational unit.Responsibilities include the supervision of staff, professional management, and administrative responsibilities that are complex in scope and that constitute a significant component of the medical center.Ability to organize work, set priorities, delegate tasks and meet multiple deadlines.Skill in managing and directing the work of others to accomplish program goals and objectives, and ability to devise ways to adapt work operations to new and changing programs, staffing and budgeting requirements.Ability to translate management goals and objectives into well-coordinated controlled work operations.Ability to establish and monitor production and performance priorities and standards.Ability to deal effectively with individuals and groups representing widely divergent backgrounds, interest and points of view.Ability to analyze organizational and operational problems and to develop and implement solutions that result in sound operation and programs.Ability to effectively supervise and manage subordinate employees.Skill in assessing qualifications and abilities of current and prospective employees.Ability to develop productivity standards appropriate to each service provided and each venue.Holds monthly psychiatry staff meetings and psychiatry training faculty meetings.Ensures that appropriate coverage is arranged for patient care.Resolves conflict among staff.Other duties as assigned.Carry an active caseload of clinical care.Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm-with the possibility of extended hours and weekends; back up on call via phoneFinancial Disclosure Report: Not requiredThis position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program within VHA. If selected for this position you must meet specific individual eligibility criteria in accordance with VHA policy 1021 and apply for EDRP within four (4) months of appointment. Final award amount and program start date is determined after review of a complete EDRP application and supporting documentation by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office. If selected for this position, please contact the facility EDRP Coordinator.United States Citizenship Required; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA PolicyDesignated and/or random drug testing requiredSelective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959You may be required to serve a 1 year supervisory probationary periodSubject to a background/security investigationMust be proficient in written and spoken EnglishSelected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding processMust pass pre-employment physical examinationQualificationsTo qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/30/2020.Basic Requirements:United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.Proficiency in spoken and written English.Physical requirements outlined below.Preferred Experience:*Mental Health team leadership and supervisory experience, preferably in a Department of Veterans Affairs setting.*Experience in working with Veteran clinical populations, PTSD, dual diagnosis and clinical proficiencies in suicide risk assessment.Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.Physical Requirements: The Supervisory Psychiatrist position will require heavy lifting (45 pounds and over), heavy carrying (45 pounds and over), reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, walking (1-2 hours), standing (1-2 hours), repeated bending (1-2 hours), both legs required.
